Had to put down my dog on May 1st. Found out my Flying career that I spent 100k and many years of training and studying is over 2 weeks ago due to me having a brain tumor. Found out last week it's cancer and have to have surgery, then chemo and Radiation after surgery. Oh, and the company I've worked for the last 6 years is laying me off this coming week, so no more health insurance to cover the necessary brain cancer treatments. I just needed to air it out. I'm not complaining. I know it can ALWAYS be worse. I'm just having a shit month and needed to air it out. Sorry.

As a Therapist and a Husband. Let me drop this perspective on the analogy. What if we applied this quote to relationships?... It's exciting a first and eventually the chemistry gives way to daily life and then the real work starts!... It might take awhile to get out and it takes a lot of strength and intentionality!

Why are there so many haters in this channel? WTH! Anyway, thank you Ryan for all your excellent work! I started reading your books a week ago, and I hadn't read anything as inspiring as your work in more over ten years. Seriously, the last non-fiction writer who inspired me was Wayne Dyer (RIP). Please keep up the great work! And good luck with the new book! I get the feeling you need a break. We've all been there! Cheers!

You could have just plugged the book at the end of a video. I see no humour in this. Only bad taste. I will not unsub because I'm not allowing this sillyness to detract from the good content you put out.

I'm 62 and up to this point I have made a series of bad decisions that have led me to where I am today. All my life I have operated from a negative Outlook. I have talked myself out of succeeding at what I believe I was meant to do. I came across a video on UA-cam of stoicism. I truly believe this is my way out of the terrible place I have landed myself. However, like I said I'm 62 and I feel as though it's too late. I never finished my master's degree and as of late I have seriously contemplated returning to achieve my masters. I would love to teach but I feel like I'm fooling myself. Because really, do I even stand a chance being hired as a 62-year-old. I'm really trying to fight hard against what I want to tell myself which is I don't stand a chance. I realize no matter what I do the time will pass and I will look back to realize I screwed up even more if I don't follow through with my education. I really do not know what to do or where or who to turn to for advice. I know there is hope but I do not see it. I'm screaming out for help

what if something really tragic would happen to you like your child is murdered would you stay stoic? what if somebody you care about is being really hurt would you defend him or stay stoic? could you really honestly have inner peace? if someone disrespected your privacy and keeps doing that should you stay stoic? we are all just humans we react human not like bots that is why peace is so hard I believe you became writer out of idealism but have you ever been confronted with suffering yourself? theory is different from reality if you think everything is meant to be like it is than what is there to learn the same things happen over and over again sorry to say but I prefer an Italian opera above a Swedish movie why? because it is all about the honesty of the emotion Shakespeare called life a stage where everyone plays his or her role that might be true if you look at the masks people wear beneath the thin layer of the so called civilization lies the world of the real face and also the unconsciousness and than you say you have to control it right!

I think this video renders this question by Admiral Hyman Rickover to be asked: “Did you always do your best?” I was left feeling a bit let down by this video. You have spoken a few times (and that's fair enough) that you have a contract with your publisher to complete the set of four books in a pre-determined amount of time, so this video feels disingenuous in a way, doubly so as its something you clearly love to do, and therefore should put lots of time into. This video is clearly just a poorly hidden advertisement for the new book, I'll be buying it by the way, theres no major hard feelings here, but after allowing a day to think it over I am disappointed. Thank you for all of the brilliant videos and books though Ryan, we've all gotten used to your high standards.

This outrage is outrageous, lol. You're proving that you'll ignore the valuable content with hard work behind it but will click on a mysterious title. Just compare the views in this video vs the one from two days ago. It's not clickbait if the video lives up to the title.

So far I have Discourses Fragments Handbook and The Enchiridion by Epictetus along with a collection of Senecas essays and of course Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. I'm hoping to add Letters later on but afterwards any other recommendation? I prefer to stick with the ancients directly just personal preference so no disrespect towards the modern sources.
